Space for Silence

Where is your attention? Are you tense or relaxed? Focused or scattered?

The subtle sound of ice grating and snarling draws my attention to the window. Creaking and cracking in subtle shifts, I am mesmerized by the power and beauty. After a few minutes of watching geese scuttle to and fro over the frozen terrain, I take a deep breath; relaxing for the first time in what seems like hours. I realize that I’ve been caught; scampering on my hamster wheel – disconnected from body and breath. I stand a while longer, consciously aware with all my senses now. I smile, feeling renewed.

What truly refreshes you? How much quiet time do you spend each day? Do you have a physical place you can go to unwind? Having time each day to let your mind and body truly relax is important. It restores you in a world that pulls and twists in different directions. What adjustments could you make in this moment to make space for silence?
