“He asked questions that in the answering of them required me to listen more deeply to myself.”

~James Finley on Thomas Merton

Are you looking for a space to connect more deeply with God? Crave a deeper sense of your soul’s purpose? Looking for an increased sense of centeredness in these times of change?

My intention as a spiritual companion is to create a safe place for a client’s exploration of what they need most at this time in their lives. Whether in times of buoyancy or difficulty, I have found the gifts of Spiritual Companionship rich in its ability to help seekers find and rest more fully within that which cultivates peace, joy, hope and inspiration. It is an honour to hold space for others as they explore living in ways they always hoped and somehow knew were possible for themselves.

Focus can include:

  • exploration of deeply cherished values, life stories, goals and creating opportunities to explore what it means to live into creating a more purpose based life that includes greater ease and comfort
  • deepening in relationship with your personal faith to discover where it can uphold you in times of joy and trouble and create a increased sense of connection with God’s voice working in day-to-day life.
  • depending upon interests, the utilization of experiential and expressive arts practices can be a part of a Spiritual Companionship experience. Jan’s experience can help foster a rich sense of awareness of spirit’s voice through the exploration of the art of pottery, writing, photography, as well as movement practices such as walking, running, archery and other disciplines.

Jan’s personal experience of faith is steeped in the Christian traditions found in the Anglican and Episcopalian faith traditions. With this, Jan is able to dance with a client’s ever evolving faith journey and is open and accepting of a client’s struggles with belief and the moving away and coming toward faith that can be a part of an individual’s personal dance with life. Her heritage incudes many who walked before her holding official roles in the church such as Anglican Priest and Canon in Canada and in the Church of England before this. She has studied with the University of Toronto Wycliffe lay program and pursued additional courses centring upon Christian traditions through her adult life. In addition, Jan’s journey has found her holding various roles in the churches she has called home both in her life lived in Canada and the United States of America.

With this, Jan’s own personal experience of faith is to ‘remember’ that which can sustain us in every waking breath because of our relationship with God. With formation and comfort to be found not only in a well-worn pew and our bibles, but in our personalized spiritual practice, relationships, creative arts, movement, nature and our companion animals. We are God’s own in every waking moment of our lives.

A Spiritual Companionship relationship is most often carried out by meeting once monthly for 75 mins (in person, phone or over Zoom). Cost per session is $75 Canadian, with some scholarship rates available. A commitment to agreed upon homework and an interest in exploring in active ways over time is an important part of the creation of a life full of purpose. Book a free 30 minute session to explore the idea of working together.

Why Spiritual Companionship

  • Long for a life of greater meaning? As seekers we often long for a ever deepening and expanding relationship with something more. From this space of connection we then crave to bring the wisdom of God’s care into the world through meaningful and purposeful action. The wisdom and principles of Spiritual Companionship can help seekers find increased clarity as space is created to hear God’s voice more fully.
  • Longing for connection? A Spiritual Companion relationship can allow space for stillness and silence to help you become increasingly aware of that which is most sacred to you in you spiritual life, and how you would like to cultivate this blessing more in your day to day life.
  • Desire a greater sense of confidence and security? Creating space helps seekers find and witness the rich patterns in their lives. Coming to know and understand the larger context can then be an aid in stepping forward with a greater sense of purpose and direction.

These pandemic years have been really isolating for me. I knew I needed to feel more connected but I didn’t know how. With Jan as my Spiritual Companion I felt a sigh of relief. I didn’t have to go it alone. Jan helped me know more fully something I had forgotten in my fear – I am never alone when I remember who I am in God’s eyes. Because of Jan and the feeling of support I had more fully in my life I was able to build my spiritual community – on-line during COVID and in-person now that things are opening up a bit. I still have a long way to go, but I feel more rooted in my life and somehow that is helping me find more joy in my life.
